A school website needs work long after launch day. Staff come and go, fees change, and every term brings new pages to add or update.

A website needs looking after once it is live. What a school should expect from a yearly care plan, and what to ask before signing one.

Websites need looking after

A website goes out of date quietly.

Nobody decides to leave last year's fees online. It happens when updates depend on someone who is busy.

A yearly care plan puts that work with one team, for one price agreed in advance, so the school is not waiting on a new quote every time something small needs doing.

Changes to text and pages

Most requests are small: a new paragraph on the admissions page, a corrected phone number, a fresh photo. These should be part of the plan.

Bigger pieces belong in the plan too, such as new pages and new sections for a programme or an event. Ask how requests are sent in and how quickly they are usually done.

Hosting and keeping it running

The plan should include hosting, so there is one place to call when the site is down or slow, and no separate bill from a hosting company.

Also check it covers:

  • Speed checks and smaller images as pages grow

  • Integrations kept working when other systems change

Your school system, admissions forms and Instagram feed all change over time. Someone needs to notice when a connection breaks.

Help for the staff who edit

If staff update news, vacancies or fees themselves, they will sometimes get stuck. The plan should include help from someone who knows your site.

New staff join every year, so a short walkthrough of the editor should be easy to ask for.

Our staff editor works for as long as the yearly plan is active.

Where care plans fall short

Some plans look cheap until you read what counts as extra.

Watch for:

  • Hosting billed on its own

  • Every text change quoted separately

  • No named person to ask when something breaks

In a good plan you rarely have to ask what is included.

One price for the year

Our yearly care plan covers text and page changes, new pages and sections, hosting and help for staff, for one yearly price.
